more pics coming, but i got the engine installed back in the 4runner. started on the first attempt at cranking it, and took about 5 seconds. ran a bit rough at first, but it quickly smoothed out. still need to adjust the clutch pedal and put the hood back on.
a few coolant drips needed to be addressed; all were solved by tightening the hose clamps.
battery was good enough to start, too. hasn’t been used since january, but it has been on a solar charger.

whilst running along on the interstate today @ 65, i discovered that the cruise control in my white ‘87 works. until today, it hadn’t worked since i bought the 4runner in october 2018. a nice and unexpected surprise.

a short video from a ride along a local town road. road has been unmaintained for decades.
sorry for the "bouncy" quality - the road is rough, and i had to drive and hold the camera.

the 31x10.5x15 cooper discoverers that i bought 7 years ago are about worn out, but i’ve been running them this summer to get a bit more miles out of them. decided to swap on the 32x11.5x15 achilles desert hawks/aurora at02 set. the coopers are mounted on american racing outlaw wheels, and the hawks/at02s are mounted on offset 8 toyota alloys.
the outlaw wheels are wider, which makes for a smaller overall diameter than if mounted on a narrow rim, but this makes a nice comparison of admittedly worn 31x10.5x15 vs new 32x11.5x15 tires.
how the 32s look on the 4runner

snapped the front e-brake cable again
last time was in 2014. did it again today. in 2014, i replaced the front e-brake cable with a genuine toyota cable. not impressed with only six years of use. my frigging '75 cj5 still has all of its original e-brake cables (which function). i ordered another genuine toyota cable. hope it lasts longer this time.

you should come up to central nh again (i saw your shots from conway etc). i'll take you to some mild, legal wheeling spots where you can give your runner a bit of a workout.
