What do you think about this deal?

Probably not the best deal and it's more of a project than I know how to handle, but I've got the money to buy it for now, live close to work, could learn what I need to do, have some friends that might be able to help and it's the perfect motor, body frame and tranny.

Guy wants $1500. He's already had over $1200 in offers for parts but would rather sell it whole.

Is it worth $1500 or should I keep looking? Seems like here in Sacramento all the 4Runners owners know that they are valuable pieces.

1985 Toyota 4runner, not running, 22RE, 5 spd, straight axle

It is a solid axle and a 4 cylinder.
I just got an 85 4x4 22R pickup for part out.

Doesnt look like a bad deal. Good little project. Id offer him 1000 and go from there. How longs that top end been open? Could mean trouble

Its all about the parts you break, and the friends you make.

Not bad for the price (1k - 1500 MAX). But , it obviously isnt going anywhere without a tow. And as Hyde said, the valve cover being off could be an issue. Rust and whatnot could make the topend useless. And its missing the upper intake manifold. The ad says all parts are there, but i dont see them on the motor so he mustve started the project then left all the parts he took off in a cardboard box. That could be a serious PITA, all the parts might not be in that box, or not functional... So in my opinion its not bad IF you have A LOT of time to dedicate to putting the motor back together( it may even have a knock etc.) then go for it..But if you need a driveable truck soon, keep looking

Also what is your budget? I thought i saw you mentioned in another thread you were looking in the 2k range. I think the truck would prob put you over budget by the time it is roadworthy. Just tires alone would put you close to 2k after purchase

It says it has a salvage title. Is that going to be a problem to insure or register in California?

Yeah, probably not worth the hassle for me, but I think I found a better deal although it's not the same body style. I could go both ways...

Mechanic special. . .1990 Toyota 4runner

The mileage scares me and it sounds like it has a few electrical issues.

I like how it has the 22RE and the 5spd in it already and has new tires. I like the look of it too in general...
