Grinding 2nd gear

Hey guys I did a quick search, but didn't see anything. I have a 5spd and I've noticed it grinds when I put into 2nd gear. It usually happens more when it's warm than cold. Any clues?

take longer between shifts.

how is the gear oil in the transmission?

I changed the oil in mine, and it started doing the same.
im pretty sure what I drained out was a mixture part ATF, and part gear oil.

its been doing it now for about 10 years, and hasn't gotten any worse. I just live with it.

I could probably drain it again, and refill with the atf/gear oil mixture again, but ive never got around to it.

What gear oil are you using? GL5 oils are supposed to be GL4 compatible, but our Toyota transmissions don't like them. An actual GL4 oil ($$$) might cure your shifting trouble. I use Redline - Royal Purple and Amsoil make GL4 specific gear oils too.

Gl4 royal purple made my tranny shift like butter. Mine never would grind, more just notchy shifting.

I've noticed it grinds really bad once it gets nice and hot. After it warms up it starts grinding into 2nd, then when it's nice and hot it starts grinding into 3rd gear too. Not sure what kind of gear oil is in it. I may have to look into that once I get a few other things addressed...
