Another one bites the dust! :(

I couple a weeks ago a teen in the neighbor hood was playing in the snow. He hit some ice and slid right into my parked runner. Lots of damage and he pushed me back almost 12 feet, in gear with the brake on. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but it's a total. My initial plan is to buy it back. Take what's left with most of my savings and pay off student loans.. completely. What to do from there I don't know. One thought is to strip some of the better parts and sell the rest. Then upgrade to 4runners big brother, Land Cruiser. (I know I know, but I want more room). The other thought is to find another first gen and swap all the parts. It doesn't look like it's going to be fixable.

Man I hope that kid gets a serious fine. Had to be going really fast in that neighborhood to do that much damage and push it that far.

Chop the frame and tube/pinch the front!

Sorry about your wheels. It's been open season on 1st gens in Utah this year.

THIS! Perfect reason to start a trail rig! But seriously, bummer man. That bumper looks pretty smushed. How was it mounted/was the frame brased?

Buy it back, part it out and pay off your loans. Student debt sucks. Im also voting for the Land Cruiser!

Its all about the parts you break, and the friends you make.

You on the east bench? I swear I've seen this runner a few times.

I won't even consider street parking in wintertime. This kind of thing is all too common.

A buddy's dad had an '86 Turbo 4runner that got nailed last winter..

I would buggy it, but I don't have a way to tow it. thatoneguy, I live in Orem. You probably have seen it, I've taken it to old school rock crawl (not competing) several times, and it was at the Low Range Show and Shine, if you made it to that. Also been in Moab many many times. mistersnowman. The insurance company totaled it. I started pricing just parts out and just the parts are more than what the blue book is. It doesn't look like a lot of damage in the picture but when he bent the front bumper up, it pulled the mounting nuts through the frame.

This sucks.... Sorry to hear about this nonsense.
I still say that Utah has some of the worst drivers in the states having live east coast, west coast pac NW and new england, just one more reason I was happy to get out of there...
regardless this is crappy and am sorry to here about it.
My vote, get rid of that debt then build what you can when you can. I too was looking hard at the cruiser before I bought my runner. While I still lust after one, I just could not make the 10 mpg work for the wallet. if you are willing to travel a bit out of utah to escape some of the toyota tax you can find plenty of runners that are still in decent shape. perhaps bump to a third gen and save your gas money?
either way keep us posted and good luck
