water crossing parking break issues

So I did my first "deep" water crossing today, about 30" at deepest and averaging closer to 18". I went through twice and both times after I noticed the brakes dragging horribly and barely able to pull the parking break out 2 inches. It went away about a 100 yards after, but I'm Leary that it might still be dragging slightly. Has anyone else had this problem ? Is it just sand getting in the brakes?

Yup, gunk in your brakes. It's probably packed with mud, and sloshing around throws it all up in the way of moving parts. Pull the drums, clean it all out, and rebuild the brakes and it'll work a lot better, even after water crossings.

If your going to do lots of deep water crossings or mud make sure your backing plate plugs are installed. This will help with amount of free flowing junk getting into drums .
