Haha, yup. There are definitely a fair number of slammed runners in that thread.

To be fair, most of them are hack jobs with some bolt-on chrome and paint, and utterly worthless at anything but being ugly. The OP has a job for his truck to do and his mods are chosen to make it do that job better, so I'm much more ok with it. If his only goal was to see how useless he could make the truck, I'd have a much different response. ;)

I still wanna know more about the 20R head on the 22RE block?

Now I'm not saying these trucks are ugly it just happens to be where some people around here thinks pics of those trucks belong. I couldn't agree more with the idea of it's your truck and if you like what you're doing with it then rock on. But I imagine it's just a matter of time before some douchebag will stumble across this thread, copy your pic and put it in that thread. Anyways keep on keepin on and I'd also love to hear more about this head swap

Thumbs up

Oh man, this is the thread I made a profile for! To ask...did you use a standard cab short bed 2wd frame? This is the only build thread I can find, anywhere...I saw the info on it before (the 1st gen 2wd frame conversion), but I can't remember which frame.

just to be a creeper

Ok so speaking on lowered 1st gen 4runners, I'll start off with this. Back in early 1993 I had an 89' Toyota SR5 extra cab pick-up(Helux), with a standard sized bed with a Snug-Top Shell Slammed on 14×7 reverse set deep dish KMC Quazars on Fulda 40 series tires. I had been through the Mini truck phase with tilt beds, bed dancing, carpeted bed knits with big sub woofer box, S-10's lowered on Chrome I-Roc Z rims, etc.... and I was wanting something different and I had seen a truck that had been cut out in the center making it a walk through truck. So I did that to my SR5, I had a sub box with 2 15's & 2 12's against the tailgate, a luv seat infront of it, i had a soft top sunroof almost the size of the whole shell in it, one like you would find on a VW Bug or Bus. Loved it but alot of work reinforcing the frame and cab and cutting out the whole center walls. But in 1995 I ended up feeling so dumb when a buddies cousin came down from Washington to vist. We planned on cruising that evening and had a show the next day. So they come over my buddy says come look at his truck. What di you know. A 1st gen 89' 4Runner slammed, same rims, way bigger custom sub box, he's left the shell at my buddies and had thrown on the soft top and frame and rolled up the back window. There it was a Toyota made walk through 2wd Mini truck. I spent 6 months customizing my SR5, my buddies cousin spent a few hours with some friends switching lifted suspension with 2wd pick-up suspension then lowered it from there and another few hours building a custom sub box. Look so custom yet it wasn't. Since I never had thought about slamming a 4Runner, or that they come in 2wd, I had always looked at the tacky black shells as stupid, never wanted a 4Runner so it never occurred to me that I could paint it the same color as the rest of the truck. I felt real dumb at that moment. Since then I look at every vehicle like it has the potential to be slammed. That 89' 4Runner was so nice looking I will probably end up building one for my son now.
