New to forum

Just picked up my first 4runner the other day. Its a 92 with the 3.0. Got a sweet deal because its not running right, apparently the owner just put in new waterpump, injectors, and head gasket, but had to sell it before getting the timing straight. Its been a couple years since ive adjusted timing, anyone got any tips or links to a video, I saw a couple on youtube but they seemed to be for different engines.

10* is stock, but if you bump it to 14ish you can get a little "free" power out of the engine.

Welcome!

idk, but for some reason I like the look of the sealed beams much better than the newer aero style ones.

Me too! Also, the factory rear spare tire carrier is one cool of an option!

Yes...got mine set to 15*(among other mods) but I also run mid-grade gas to prevent ping

Also, OP, because the timing belt was taken off and on(assuming its a new one) check to make sure it hasn't jumped a tooth on the cams

Always be leary of cars that are almost working except for a few some issues. Usually its a bad sign. If it was that straight fwd, PO probably wouldn't be dumping it for scrap prices.

Saying that, you never know. I would verify timing marks on everything before doing anything else. Make sure at TDC on cyl 1 or better yet, use the crank markings, both cam marks are lined up. Once you verify all of that, then move to verifying timing and advance. I've seen distributors and cams 180 degrees off before so its best to not assume anything and check everything one at a time.

Good Luck.
