91 3.0 random electrical power loss

Im not to good with electrical things so i direct this to everyone on here. Has anyone else experienced a random loss of electricity to the engine? At random times ill loose all power and have to disconnect my battery cables and reconnect them to get it to work and sometimes that doesn't even do it. I noticed when it did it this weekend that the little box with the relays that say CDS FAN NO.1 and NO.2 and something else on it clicks and got a little warm when i was trying the key with no power. What are these for and could these be the problem please help

@Hyde802 do you have any light to shed on this because if i cant fix it im going to be forced to sell it. I dont like electrical problems and they always arise at bad times like when your leaving for work in the morning. (knock on wood)

Sounds like a loose ground maybe? Best way is to trace the is with a volt meter when it happens.

Hard to diagnose a random electrical issue through the internet. What have you checked so far?

it never used to do it at all until i changed the cigarette lighter from being on switch power to a constant from the battery with its own fuse. the wire i pulled for that seems to be in perfect shape. Do you know what those FAN CD NO.1 and 2 relay looking things do they are in there own little fuse type box in front of the fuse box

Those are just for the electric fans for the AC condenser, I think

Have you checked all the other fuses? Did you leave a loose wire hanging when you re wired the cig lighter that may be shorting out?

Have you downloaded the FSM yet? Is has trouble shooting steps to walk you through these types of things.

Check the fusible link between the battery and the engine bay fuse box - should look to be about a 6-8 gauge wire with a big lump in the middle.

I had a similar problem where it would run fine one day, go back to it the next day and all the dash light were dim, low volts and no-start. I could wiggle the link and everything would fire back up. Changed it out - good ever since.

Good Luck!
