well damn......

travelling home from across the state last night, my 3.0 gave up the ghost. seems my motor is locked completely up. looking to buy a replacement engine, any recommendations?

I've read several threads about folks buying those engines from Ebay but no one has posted any long term results. my mechanic is pulling the motor tomorrow to check and see how much damage is actually done but the motor will not turn at all.

was thinking LCengineering heads and a rebuild but not sure at this point whether a whole new motor is a better choice. I am not interested in a swap of any kind as the 3.0 is sufficient for what I do.

Terrible news for anyone... If you plan on keeping the truck do not buy some cheap ebay motor. You have the right idea, get the block rebuilt and buy some heads, check engnbuilder.com, many many good reviews from this site( me included). Of coarse that is a worse case scenario
If you dont want to break the bank stay away from lc engineering, though they make a good product.

yeah, staying away from ebay is what I was thinking. APRAuto (anyone heard of them?) has a long block for 1800. was thinking of that direction. or they have a short block for 1150 and then I can add the LCEngineering heads. not sure, I got 230k out of the original engine just wanting to get another 230k.

Imo and experience having the block rebuilt and new heads with quality parts by a reputable shop is the only way you will get 230k out of the motor. Think how toyota built the motor in first place, no cut corners and a product built to last. Ebay motors, long blocks, heads whatever are built with one thing in mind...to make a profit

Autozone carries a line of rebuilt engines with a guarantee. Jasper are supposed to be good too. There's place in Raleigh that sells remanufactured engines. Let me look for the name...

Damn I'm good...
Toyota 3vze engine 3.0 V6

$1600 for 3.0

I don't have any experience with any of these. I would want a performance engine if my 22RE goes but they take a while to build and ship. I would not trust a shop to rebuild one unless they were my greatest friends. There have been too many horror stories on all the Toyota forums. Check out that outlet engine place before you spend $$ because I don't know anything except that they exist. As you know LCE and engnbuildr have great reputations.

jasper is super expensive, and I'm not sure its worth the cost. I spoke with outlet engines this morning. I may buy a short block from him and throw the LCEngineering heads on it.

apparently my old motor spun a main bearing. damn it.

Let us know if you're happy with outlet engines. They are within reasonable distance to me to pick one up. After all my 89 22RE has 149k on it now!

Congrats! You just broke the motor in, now time to get some real mileage out of it

I am in the process of having my 3.0 rebuilt. Its being done by a local guy who has been building engines for his whole life. My family has used him for decades so I trust him. He is charging me $2200 for all the machine work and parts to do the long block. I know I could have got an engine cheaper elsewhere but I just didn't want to risk it. Just wanted to throw that out there to help you make your decision.

Good luck!

Hi neighbor! What shop does your friend work at? Not a whole lot of reputable engine builders here in the valley

I CAN READ AND I KNOW WHAT YOU SAID. But a 3.4 will bolt right up. swap a couple wires and your head problem is gone you got more power and better mpg.

Sorry I guess that might have been a bit misleading. He is actually in San Diego, not the valley. I lived in San Diego most my life so I still consider it local. Anyway his Dad owned a speed shop in San Diego for ever. When his dad died he took all the equipment and does everything out of his house. I think his prices are close to what you would typically spend and any small shop.

well decision made. ordered a long block from Dennis Auto Machine, in Maryland. According to several folks on yotatech, toyotanation and pirate4x4...... this guy is the shit. so I took a gamble here. the cost was reasonable and Dennis was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable. anyway, the motor shipped quickly and should be delivered first of next week. i'll let you guys know when it goes in.
