Smile The Build up starts - Newbie from Oz

Howdy, firstly let me say that as a complete newbie to 4 Runners and the 4WD scene, I've found this site very helpful, so much so that I've decided to start a 'Build Up' process on my recently acquired 1989 4 Runner.

Stage 1 was to remove the 17 year old stickers from the sides.... Some of the products used by those members who have already tried this are not readily available in Australia so here's a list of what I used... and some photos...

Heat Gun (on low setting)
Razor blade type scraper
De-Solv-It Citrus based spot remover

Sticky residue remains, so I gave it a good soaking with De-Solv-It citrus spray..

Once the citrus spray has softened the sticker glue (10 minutes) , very carfefully use a combination of the razor scraper and a few clean rags (and lots of citrus spray) and it all comes off.... hit it with a bit of polish and the paint comes up A-OK !!

Next job is to replace the banged up front bumper bar. The original bar has copped a few big hits over the years by the look of it (and actually looks much worse in real life than it does in this photo)

A later model front bar was sourced from a SURF and luckily bolts straight on. The Chrome will soon be replaced with a charcoal metalic, and the light grey section will match the rest of the Sandlewood metalic paintwork.... and thus ends weekend number 1 on the Build Up...

Next up is rear bar adjustment and repair and rear springs....

hope I haven't chewed up to much space with photos, please advise as this is my first go at posting this kind of stuff.

Cheers

I looked at your other thread first. Now I have seen this older one. Just my opinion but you should just keep adding to your thread. That way everything is together and people can follow along with your progress. That is how I am doing mine. Just my 2 cents.
