looking for mechanic for my 1st gen

I just got an 86 4runner a couple weeks ago and I have been trying to clean it up and get it back on the road. After yesterday I realize I would be better off finding somone with experience to do the work. I spent the bulk of my day trying to figure out the rear window non op and no luck. I used lots of good advice found here and elsewhere but I now realize I would rather pay someone to do a good job quickly then my slow and half ass job.

does anybony know of anyone in the neighborhod of fredericksburg tx that can do some fixen in exchange for some renumeration. I know the following repairs are needed:

rear window up/down from key and/or switch
neutral safety switch
a/c clutch is bad
horn
wipers
not sure if others these are the main issues.

I am gonna try to change the bulb in the turn signal myself but hey I might mess that up too.

please PM if you are interested or have a recommendation of someone.

thanks very much

check the connector at the drivers side rear of the vehicle for the rear window (not the one that goes to the wiper), ensure that the connector is clean. That was the issue with mine (as well as a few other things), its an easy thing to see and fix and might get your window working.

pushed the console button yesterday (just for kicks) and the window started working - I dug through everything on Saturday and couldn't get console or key to move it. I guess It needed some time to rest.

I would still rather spend my free time doing things other than working on this truck. I have 2 small children and a more than full time job so free time is valuable to me. And I really don't know what I am doing anyway so....If you know of anyone good at fixing this stuff please PM or post it on the thread.

thanks - to everyone on this site

Owning a older truck like this is gonna require some love. It is hard to find a mechanic that knows these vehicles.
I am in Leander, just north of Austin and not too far from you. I could try to help you out but my time is valuable also. I do have a '86 4runner that I have touched everything on.
The factory service manual is a very good place to start but if you do not have the time to invest in it yourself, this may not be the vehicle for you.

Obviously going to be expensive to have a mechanic work on this for you as its older its going to need more tending to. That doesn't mean cant use one though, not a big deal if you have a little more funds then time. Not from your area sorry so cant really recommend anyone other than to tell you to use Yelp or Google for mechanics in the area with good ratings and give it a shot.

I stoped in to a shop yesterday that had a late 80s land cruiser outside and wammo - guy inside says he worked for toyota for over 20 years in the 80s and 90s. i live in a small town so i just didn't figure anyone around here had much experience. hopefully he will be good. If so I will share the info.

I have owned a few old cars from the 1930s up to 1960s so I know what I am in for. I guess the electrical stuff in the 80s is going to be tough for me. i just would rather spend a couple hundred dollars to have someone fix something for me that might take me a whole day. at least that is how i feel right now. i stress at work all week and when i have down time i dont feel like stressing on a truck......let me get it on the road and have a little fun then i will maintain it.

thanks for the input and ideas.

If you want some stress relief and want to test your runner on some light off roading, I will be out at Hidden Falls Adventure Park near Marble Falls the weekend of Sept 20th.
