Show me your black wheels please
Thats what my 4R looks like and has looked like for about the last 8 years. I like it and I get compliments on it but I'm getting tired of those chrome rims. The chrome is starting to flake off and show its age. Besides, I just installed Warn manual hubs and these wheels just don't look right with those hubs on and the caps off.
So, give me suggestions for new wheels. I don't want chrome again and am leaning towards something all black, but I don't know what. I have the hardest time just looking at plain wheels and trying to visualize them installed with tires on.
Thanks!!!

Go with the 5 star 3rd gen rims from the '99+ Runners since I don't see that often on a 2nd gen and they are one of the nicest OEM wheels Toyota put on 4Runners IMO.

I know it's not a very good picture. They are AWC Black Daytona 15X8 rims. Available at National Tire and Wheel. I think they are also called Type 51.
This pic might be better.

Here's mine. I bought them this way and I think they're black via the simple expedience of a can of spray paint.
A more utilitarian look, I think. Your T4R is still in excellent shape. I'd go back with new chrome wheels myself or maybe black with some chrome trim pieces.

Black wheels
Hey MtnHome 4Runner, that's some project you got going on there! I also want to go with black wheels after the new black paint job on my '85 4R. What have you modified on your 4R? Any more pictures you care to share?

Sorry I never responded to this. I got real busy for awhile. I'm currently in California for another month and then it's off to South Korea for a year.
I finished phase 1. I installed a 5" lift, Hy-Steer conversion, Rancho 9000 shocks, and 34 X 10.5 Swampers. My truck is now red and green. I plan to paint it black and replace the front & rear bumpers when I get back. I also need to replace the clutch and head gasket when I get back. I managed to take it out on 2 trail runs before I left. Here's a couple of pics for you.

Awsome pic's!
Wow! Those are some great pic's. Thanks for sharing...I think it will look very cool in black paint. I will post some pic's of my '85 4runner. I just got it back from the paint shop 2 weeks ago. I have several parts ordered to finish dressing it up. I am replacing all light assemblies on all 4 corners along with numerous seals and badges, etc.
