2nd gen tailgate fitment

Getting ready to put a OEM tire carrier on my 94 4runner. Anyone know if the 90-91 tailgate will fit on my rig? I wanted to add that tailgate because it has the reverse lights visible and I wont have to modify it. I already got the tire carrier from a 90 4runner for $20 and don't mind paying $60 for a tailgate to save me some headache and time.

Cant think of a reason why it wouldn't fit. The 2nd generation body parts should all be interchangeable.

Thanks for ur input. I'll be checking the local pick and pulls out for a used 90-91 tailgate. If anyone else has info please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I've seen that write up and that looks pretty nice. I just wanted my tailgate to look clean and not chopped up like his. Thanks for your input!!

well,@ my local yard I could have gotten all the parts for roughly under $100

My thoughts were that the tire carrier @ $75 (rough guess) & like $5 for the center plastic panel & another $5 to $10 for the lights sure beats the hell out of paying another $75 to $100 for a complete tail gate that you may have to paint to match your rig. Would just have to cut the hole for the lights, & the panel just bolt on to your tailgate. (& of course fab a backing plate & mount the catch. But then your already needing to fab the renforcement part for the carrier)
But also know time is money to some as well..

there is now way just putting nut certs in the 1/4r panel will last .
I have replaced 1/4 panels with the factory rear tire carrier , and there are all kinds of welded supports underneath the skin ..

The tire carrier was only $19 and the tailgate will be $59. I'm going to be painting the car with primer because it will be a hunting vehicle so color matching color won't be a issue. And the 1/4 panel reinforced with a bracket that that will be custom made (no more than $50) my a local welder. Here's the link to the guy that did the reinforced bracket 4Runner factory swing-away spare tire carrier retrofit. I just picked up this rig so I still have a few things to do before I tackle the tailgate.
