Rebuild road block

Ok, so I'm about 10 months into a rebuild of an 89. Got a 22re from an 88, swapped it in (original was blown). Ran into an efi issue as the 88 needed a solenoid not wired into the 89, so swapped the 89 efi back onto the 88 block (plenum and all). Put 89 ecu back in.

Now I'm stuck with a starter that won't turn over, and an efi that won't inject. The starter was a problem from the get go, I successfully bypassed it at the relay, now it will turn over when run directly from the relay, but I'm thinking I may have bypassed a bigger problem. The efi is getting current, but there is no voltage at the actual injectors.

The 88 ran just fine (other than a bent frame from accident) when I bought it, 89 had a hole in the block the size of a softball. My only guess is that a signal that needs to be sent back to the ecu for both the starter and the efi isn't being sent. Any ideas guys? Before you ask, fuel pump is fine, fuel gets to the rail, just not in the cylinders.

Thanks in advance.

i'm not positive, but i believe the '88 used a one-year only injector with different specifications than either the pre-'88 and post-'88. therefore, if you are using an '88 engine with '88 injectors, you'll need an '88 ECU to make it work, or do some other changes.

if you are already using the '89 injectors, then something else is going on.

the starter issue may well be related to the wiring flaw made by toyota in the starting circuit, similar to the headlight wiring flaw.

Thanks Wally, I found the thread about how to fix the starter wiring flaw, and the good news is the solution they posted is exactly the bypass that I did. Now still stuck with the efi...
