cargo area cover for 1991 Hilux Surf

anyone have any sources (or ideas) for a cargo area cover for a 1991 Hilux Surf/4Runner? I'd like to be able to use the space, and not have to worry about leaving things unattended?

I'm located in Canada, but also have access to a USA address for shipping purposes. Any help would be appreciated.

I have been searching all over for something like this and found nothing. I'm thinking of going to a junk yard or even Toyota to see if I can find a 3rd gen or newer cover and I'll make my own brackets to mountt them.
If anyone can get a measurement of one of those that would help alot, or if anyone does know of one for the 2nd gen please share!

i built a frame out of some old PVC pipe...and bought some cloth to put over it...bought a can of spray paint so it looked decent...i used industrial strengh velcro so i can take the cloth off if i need to put something taller than the frame in...i have 2 12" subs in a box in the back of my T4R...so i always have something in my cargo area at all times...

Thanks for the tip; I think I'll do that too! Maybe take a pic and show us your handiwork.

BTW, where is/are your amp(s) mounted? I want to cover my cargo area for the same reason, audio equipment.

When I bought my '95 4Runner, I was surprised at the absence of a cargo cover, especially since I had one in my '85 Supra. For some reason, Toyota didn't make them available for the US market, however they were available for other countries.
I got all the part numbers and priced out the parts (there are several mounting brackets and clips and such that are all separate parts) and it came out to over $500. I just never got around to buying it. I then found a cargo cover made by Wolf Automotive (see my pics below) and bought it through Summit Racing. Its not a very common item, so it took a while to receive, but it was only $40. Not sure if the dimensions are the same for your '91, but they should be close.

I believe this is the link to the item. However, that description doesn't say a whole lot. I called Summit to verify if that is the correct number, and they have no further information about it. It is not on Wolf's website, but you or I can call them on Monday and find out if thats the correct number and if its still available. Their number is 1-877-427-8166.

You can't see them in these pics, but the cover is held on with three clips that are screwed into the side panel.

Thanks for the post, the info helps a lot.

The part number you've given is 981-60003, and I've also found another part number (at a local parts store): 960-10014.

I found it in a 5-yr old Wolf Automotive catalog, and it was for '90-'95 4Runners. So, hopefully those of us who are looking can find one or the other sooner than later.

i left my PVC creation in California when I drove out to Colorado for school...because i couldnt fit all my stuff in the car with it in...then just last friday someone busted my passenger vent window...opened up the door...and jacked my 2 12" subs...the box...and the amp(it was mounted to the back of the seat)...the ironic part is that i was goin to have a car alarm with a pager system installed the next day...so the cargo area cover is always a good idea...thanks for the part #...im gonna get right on that...

I just emailed Wolf. I called them earlier and was on hold for a long time but no one ever answered. Hopefully I'll hear from them soon.
If I remember correctly, the first time I ordered this, I was sent the incorrect item and had to send it back and eventually got the correct one, but it took a while. That may be the reason I have a different number.

Anyone ever tried making one from a newer 4R fit? Area should be about the same width, but the length is a bit shorter. Might be worth a trip to a junk yard to try and find one.

Does anyone know of a junkyard in Colorado where they might have a newer T4R?

I found a local guy selling one from a '94 (so he said, and without the mounting clips) and it wasn't wide or long enough.

Are there significantly different body widths? I've noticed mention of wide body and standard body models on the net. I've got a Hilux Surf SSR Limited; how does that compare to a regular SSR, etc?
