thinking of buying a 5vz-fe for a swap on ebay.....

hello yall. so i thought about buying a 5VZFE from ebay. they have many on there that claim to be jdm engines with low miles. has anyone here ever purchased a engine from there with it claiming to have low milage? if so, was it legit and seemed to have low miles and ran good?

considering to get the engine now and get ready for a swap down the road. i just recently did alot of work on my 3.slow and wished i had just done the swap for the more power part of it. hoping to be able to sell my 3.0 3vze engine that i recently just did a ton of work to due to a head gasket leak and burning coolant.

I have never bought one of these, but from what i know if it's truly from Japan it will have low miles. There government has the "Shaken" law which requires them to get an inspection, the longer they keep it the more it costs to re-register which is a bonus for us! I would just make sure to buy from a reputable place and give it a good inspection before putting it in.

Let us know how it goes!

I recently bought one on eBay from JDM Alliance . Motor was very clean and they were fast to answer questions and take additional pics for me by taking the valve covers off. Even their shipping was super fast. We had it in two days.

Now there are some horror stories from a couple of just sellers out of NJ. So just do your research on the sellers. Now there were parts that had to be used off of my old motor, like the oil pan, plunium(sp), pulleys.

I always buy full running vehicles for my swaps.
1. You know they work even if the body is destroyed the engine runs.
2. You get all the parts you may need from the donor vehicle.
3. You can typically recoup a lot of and sometimes the hole initial cost of the vehicle. Example did a 5v swap back in the day the donor was a rotted out 97 with a locker and great interior, I payed 900$ for it and after I sold spare parts like Front diff rear locker and interior parts I had made about 1,300 so my good running engine was free.
4. Having a running engine to start with narrows the troubleshooting if it won't start after the swap.

It all depends on your abilities but if you have the space I recommend a full truck. You can sell parts off it and recoup the cost and you won't need more parts other then special adaption parts. As far as mileage I don't mind engine that are older as you can always rebuild after the swap is successful and you have worked out all the kinks.

I bought one JDM once and will never do it again the engine was junk and missing a lot of little parts that costed me more in the long run then a hole vehicle would have been.

I have done many swaps and that method has always worked great for me! Best of luck
