New to the site but here's a pic of my old 88 I sold last year.
88 3.0 sas, 4.88's, 35's, f&r lockers. My dad bought it new in 1988 when I was 3. I got it when I turned 16 and it was still all stock and sold it when I was 33 how it sits in the pic.
I miss it all the time

Good morning everyone! A few years ago I had posted a reply to this thread hoping to see if there was a way to find out if the '86 4Runner I owned from 1992 through about 2001 still exists. At the time, I was not able to locate any documents that had the VIN on it. Over the weekend I finally found it.
The last 8 of the VIN of my old 4Runner was G0056867. In about 2001 I had sold it to a kid that (if I remember correctly) lived in/near Glendora, California. I am including a photo of the vehicle.

I'm not interested in trying to track the vehicle down with an interest in purchasing it, just my own curiousity as to whether or not it still exists at all.

Thank you!!

My first one was a '88. The guy who had it before me put about $14,000 into the suspension. It rode really smooth and had aftermarket baja fiberglass fenders on the front.

Newbie's 88 22re needs driveline. Will 92 pickup work?

Just pulled this solid 88 out of a junkyard for 500 bucks. 1st pic is pulling out 5 garbage cans of junk. 2nd is a day later after pressure washing the inside. Yes, I like projects and it is my first 1st gen. It needs engine trans and long drive shaft. I have two rusty frame early 90s pickups with same driveline. The wheelbase is the same so can one of these be the donor?
Thanks!

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

I'd like to see more pictures of your rig, sweatybandit. I am more and more curious about how people are restoring 1st Gen 4Runners. Gotta love having 3 generations to donate newer parts.

Sorry about that 'RAD4Runner', couldn't figure out how to post the pic. Here it is though.

Since not working I've had more time to check out sites like this. I'm the original owner of my 1989 SRT 5 speed. I drove it daily and did most of the mods in the early 90s. An upgraded stereo with an amp to rear 8" Kicker speakers was my first mod. A Kayline? soft top was next. I next had the cats removed (I live in a non smog enforced area) and had the exhaust split to both sides. Tube bumpers, the visor and bigger tires came next at about the same time. Stiffer shocks, and add a leaf, and wider wheels and tires came next.

I bought the 4Runner with the plan to keep it forever to have a four wheel drive truck around. I mainly now use it if the weather is bad (rare where I live near Atlanta) or to pull or haul. My main offroading is down a trail to my boat dock.

I saw someone mention insurance totalling issues. That is a problem with insurance values vs actual values on our trucks. My truck was parked and someone ran into mainly my left rear tire. The leaf spring was damaged as well as minor other damage. The insurance company totalled it. I was able to rebuy it, rebuild it, and get a rebuilt title. All that is a pain btw, normal collision shops will not work with stuff like this.

Another bothersome accident to watch out for is I backed into a tree with the tailgate down. Minor damage but it ended up being easier to buy another tailgate and they can be hard to find, especially not rusted out.

Recently I installed a small winch on the front and had pretty much all the front end replaced. It was time for new tires also. I pretty much have never worn out a set before they get too old to use anymore. I'm at 156k miles now.

Thanks. I went to a redneck wheel and hubcap shop and traded my stock wheels for a set of 9" wide wheels. Then I went back a year or two later and went up to these 10" wheels. I don't remember the design, but I think I liked the 9s better.
