Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

They were some white LED pods mounted to the lower core support with L brackets. Changed them to amber LED pods from Amazon recently.

Another 1st gen checking in! I just had an 86 given to me, it's been in a field for almost a decade. I'm new to the off road world and am extremely excited to build this rig up and go explore some new places.

Whaaaat? A 22RE blew a head gasket??? That neeeever happens to anything but 3.0s!!
Said with heavy sarcasm. Glad to hear you’ll have it back on the road soon! It’s a tidy looking rig! Your trailer looks like it needs some love though;)

how's your trailer? got a pic?
i bought the white 4runner with 282K on the motor. after pulling it, it was clear that a previous owner, perhaps the one i bought it from, used "stop leak" or similar at some point. it is what it is. the red 4r, i bought with 97k miles on it, and it now has over 187k; i've owned it for almost 7 years, and drove it from the northeast US to the desert southwest and back 3 years ago, putting 8500 miles on it in 30 days, with ZERO problems.

Whoa there big fella. I was making a joke. You’ve heard of those, right? There is a ton of hate from the 2.4 owners aimed at the 3.0 and it’s head gasket issues, and I was merely poking fun in the other direction. It’s good to see it getting a fresh engine as the rest of the thing looks pretty mint!
And would you like me to post a pic of my trailer? I can if you’d like...
There seems to be a LOT of very thin skinned folks on this forum. It’s just the internet. Everybody take a deep breath...

another canadian dumass. i didn’t take any offense to your comment about the 22re, but i do take offense to some dope disparaging the appearance of a trailer. it’s a trailer that gets used, not a trailer-queen trailer. it is safe, and has a solid deck surface, and properly functioning lights. all four tires have excellent tread and are true trailer tires.
