Thanks, but I'm looking for the fix without buying the painless kit.It involves moving/or cutting a wire in the relay and adding wires?

Yes, PM the user "Rad4Runner". It is a really simple modification that anyone can acomplish regardless of their electrical skills.

Hot shot is good, but tricky. Ask Griswald.
Besides, MLDave's, like Griswald's truck, already has the relay that was wired wrong at the factory, like many from 1986 to 1991.
Therefore, the better fix is to re-wire like Griswald did, same link.

Yes. Simple.
Here, Dave.
Same as my post on Yotatech.
Ruby Tuesday - rad4runner's Mods and Restoration

BUT FIRST, we gotta fix Dave's battery connection.

A picture paints a thousand words.
Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

I bought the hot shot kit, but returned it.
RAD4Runner's method is easier and less expensive.

Was maybe $10 in parts at the auto shop.
Tiny bit of soldering and shrink wrap.
Takes about an hour depending.

My suggestion is to go with that - RAD will guide you through it.

Just make sure you cut the right wire
