Was your truck originally from somewhere NOT New Mexico? Or somewhere rainy in NM (lol)? I've had mine in Texas, Tennessee, and Arkansas with plenty of rain, driving, and what have you, and mine doesn't seem to have a lick of rust in any of the typical areas.

You know I cant remember the towns its been in. I do know that its always Been in New Mexico though. Usually cars from here don't rust to bad its pretty dry. I don't get why it rusted there but no where else its kinda weird.. I just got done wire wheeling both sides... Ig the person before be had rust right above the bumper and put Bndo and paint and left it...Ig its my problem now...

Hopefully your rust removal goes well. I’m a big fan of self etch primer especially on small repairs like that. Good luck!

So me and my step dad started it on Friday. We cut out the rust, cleaned the inside of the quarter panel, and primed the inside of panel. The tricky part was making the body lines. I was originally going to put a flat piece of metal there but my step dad convivced me that it would look better if we formed it. We got everything tacked up and we were going to finish it the next day. I got sick and was un able to finish it. I will have to wait until my stepdad is ready again then it will be done. this is what it looks like as of now.

Im finally done with the rear qp and they look alright. Nothing professional but the rust is gone. Right after I was done with the rust I accidentally back into a small pole denting in the whole lower part of the back latch. So we welded a little piece of metal to it and ratchet the dent out, doesn't look good but the widow rolls down. Also I replaced my knock sensor and pigtail. It was a pain in the a**. But in the process I found out that my timing belt tensioner was seized and would not move and that I needed a new belt and idler bearing. But when we first took the timing cover off the idler bearing spun freely. It had no tension. We didn't think anything of it till we buttoned it back up and tried to start it and it was making a thump and backfiring. We took the timing cover off and though out the process of changing my knock sensor the timing slipped and was now a quarter turn off of its mark and that's when we ran into the seized bearing. lucky the tensioner on my spare runner was working so we swapped it in while we wait on parts. we re buttoned her up and she started right up. The only bad thing is that I now have a code 21. Not sure what code that is but ill find out... almost forgot I got a new 4wd sensor switch so now my 4wd light isn't on anymore. two dash lights done just the check engine to worry about now.

Ordered timing belt, tensioner, idler bearing, and tensioner spring. $350.00 down the drain... But at least she will run for another 100,000 miles. I forgot to add that I replaced the broken injector and bought the LCE short shifter.

Code 21 is an O2 sensor. Sounds like you now have more work to do!

O2 sensor replacement takes like 5 minutes and $45 from RockAuto for the right denso one. Huge difference

other than a ton of rear tube bumpers I am not aware of any 2nd Gen 4Runner rear plate bumper options other than custom

So I Replaced my O2 sensor last night. took about 10 min. Started her back up and took her around the block and the check engine light came back on... still code 21. What would I look for next. I also want to note that the P.o took out the catalytic converter. Also I replaced my 4wd sensor and it did not go off either. How would I go about testing the harness for it?

I was thinking about doing manual locking hubs but they are expensive to buy online. I called my local salvage yard and they have a set for $50 each. If I swapped these to my runner will I no longer have to worry about the 4wd light since it wont be ADD?

So I went to get my hubs and someone bought them... They person told me that he had a bunch of 4runners that had locking hubs. I walked around for forever trying to find them but unfortunately all of the hubs were gone. Luckily on the way back I noticed a older sr5 truck hidden in the corner. It had the original Aisin hubs and the non ADD front axle tube. My Question is even thought its a truck would the hubs and axle tube still bolt right up since its from the same time period?

Nice truck and nice body work. Mine will be needing a little bit of attention in some of the same areas soon. Keep it up!

Thank you I've spent a little bit of time on her. Will be doing the timing in weeks to come and addressing the 4wd light being on all the time. Sometime this week I will take off the actuator and see if its actually locking and unlocking the front axles. If not I will buy the manual hubs I was talking about. If it works ill leave it for now cause I have more important upgrades.
