Power antenna override switch

Working on this. Issue is, aftermarket stereo energizes relay and raises antenna no matter which source I'm at. I'm rarely on AM/FM so I wanted control. Wheeling with a power antenna dancing around while on iPhone music uselessly is pointless and can cause damage and more work at some point.

So far I plucked some wires at the relay module at found the right one that comes from the stereo to energize. Next is to wire in a toggle switch so I have ultimate control.

Fun fact: Chuck Norris's computer doesn't have a CONTROL button... He is ALWAYS in control.

Update by the end of the weekend of anyone cares.

I've been thinking about this exact same thing. In my 94, a solid connection through the radio's relay between the Black-Red wire and the Pink-Blue wire in the radio harness activates the Auto Antenna Control Relay. The radio harness wires are probably the easiest to get to. Throw a switch in-line on one of those, and you're good to go.

Thanks. The pink/blue I plucked out of the relay connector for testing seemed to shut down the antenna so that's the first one I'm going to try. Shitty part about going after the radio is that I've had this dash apart so much over the years none of the screws are holding in very well anymore haha. I'm probably just going to run a couple wires from the relay itself and try not to disturb the dash. This was supposed to be a quick deal and id like to keep it that way.

Should be able to confirm today or tonight depending on time.

Done! Used pink/Blue at relay, cut it and ran switch in line. Switch also has LED so ran a ground for it to energize when antenna is up. Works like a charm. I have a video but no YouTube account so if anyone wants to see it I'll gladly email the video.

That's awesome 4Reak! I'll have to try that next.

My dash is the same as yours... We need to get some larger thread screws with a head that fits the holes.

I'll post your vid if you want. I'll pm you my email.

I am guessing you must have wired yours properly. I am also thinking I misread the schematic...

I think we need power on both the Pink / Lt. Blue as well as the Black / Red or at minimum just the Black / Red. Looking at the schematic, the logic gates (from L to R) call for power from:
  1. Radio Fuse AND Instrument Cluster
  2. Gate 1 OR the Player (Din-size OEM CD I'm guessing?) without Gate 3 to Lower the Antenna
  3. Gates 1 & 2 AND Power from the Radio output to Raise the Antenna

I only connected the Pink / Lt. Blue to my Remote Out on my stereo. Looks like I should have wired it together with the Black / Red instead or with both together. Duh. I also think my switch should have gone in-line on the Black / Red or both that and the Pink / Lt. Blue combined. Wordy, I know. Does that make sense?

Having just put everything back together... I think I'll wait to mess with that again. I listen to downloaded or streaming 99% of the time anyway, but I do want the radio to work properly.

Can anyone confirm both wires or just the Black / Red need to be connected to the Remote Out for the antenna to function properly?
