I like it also!
A forum member told me about his 4R grill swap:

"Hey mate the grille is off a first gen pickup, the only thing I had to do to make it fit was swap the headlight surrounds for the later 86-89 4runner, as they are shorter. you can use the earlier ones if you trim them down however i didn't like the look of them trimmed. Also all the mounting points don't line up so I just used cable ties on the two outer top holes, and drilled a self tapper into the bottom middle hole. It holds solid enough!"

I hope this helps.

If you do it, please, document it.

Reviving this old thread, picked up a grill on ebay for $30 and trying to figure out how to make it work. Will definitely require some creative dremeling but I don't want to damage any of my stock parts so I have the ability to go back.

We'll see how this goes.

Came in for the follow up. I bought the grill but not the headlamp out assembly. The ones I’ve seen don’t have the depth of my 87, specially noticeable on the turn signal. Would love to know how anyone’s turned out!
