The headliner in my '88 runner is dirty and torn, I'm thinking of replacing it with something easier to keep clean. Had anyone else replaced it with a polycarbonate sheet or a thin sheet of aluminum? Also, please post pictures of this if you've got them. Thanks.
RAD4Runner did something like you're asking for in his Ruby Tuesday T4R first gen:
Yup.
Used one-piece (not interlocking) version of "Best Step Anti-Fatigue Mat". Bought at Sears. Other stores may carry it. Zero maintenance. Stiff enough, you may not need any adhesive.

A picture paints a thousand words.
Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

One-layer, one-piece, closed-cell foam headliner on Land Cruiser

Low-maintenance, modular, easy to remove/replace, utilitarian look.

Old thread revival. That's a great idea. Trying to find something as similar as possible in grey. Is the diamond plate pattern on both sides of the mat?
Brand is Best-step. Available in many places. Pep Boys, Big Lots, etc. Got mine from Sears.
Only one side has diamond plate pattern.
