1986 4runner

Well I have always been a classic Toyota fan, my first truck was an 84, then I got a 93 and then an 87 4runner. I have always kicked myself for selling the 84 and the 87. The 93 with the 3.slo gave up the ghost. Well I have since been driving a 08 tacoma with a small lift and 285s. This truck is nice but it doesn’t satisfy the itch for the classic. Well that has all changed but it’s definitely going to be a project. A buddy of mine called me up two weeks ago and asked if I knew anybody looking for an 86 4runner.... uh yeah.... ME. So I talked to him a few min about it and he told me he just wanted what he paid for it. 1000$....!!! Come to find out this truck has a newish motor in with less than 80k miles. Not really sure where I’m going to be going with it but it’s definitely a project and definitely not going anywhere.

I like the 4Runner. Don't see what the pickup and dead deer have to do with 4Runners, though.

So does anybody know where to get replacements for the black plastic pieces in front of the rear wheel wells? Or would I be better off removing them and then patching the mounting spots and leaving them off?

Well I’m about ready to get started on this project, but gotta finish this project first. All that’s left is installing the carpet and deck. Got this boat for 2 cases of beer woth a 25hp mercury and trailer. It’s almost done then I’ll
Be hitting the 4runner pretty hard hopefully. What lift should I go with? Debating sas but not sure if I want to do that or just lift it enough for 33s

I’ve finally started to try to mess with the 4 runner and one nagging issue I keep thinking about is the tailgate latches. The window rolls up and down fine and the lock and unlock works, I know because I just pulled it apart. My issue is that the gate will latch but I cannot open it. I took it Apart this morning and it seems that the cross gear has too much play. The cables work but they don’t move enough to open the latches unless I manually turn the cross gear. Anybody else had this problem or an idea for a fix? I have looked but can’t find the exact part I “may” need. Thanks for any help
