Ajohnson85's '87 build

I bought an '87 to replace my '85, with a rotting frame and tired 22re. I hate to put the '85 down, I considered options of repairing it,but this is the most logical option for me. So everything from the '85 will go in this one; front axle, suspension, the upgraded brake parts, dual cases, electrical goodies etc. etc.

'87 SR5 with a good frame. Rebuilt drivetrain; 22re, W56 5spd, top shift t-case, and 4 cyl. rear diff. And my favorite part, the red interior.

I have started taking it apart, got the t-case and rear springs out to sell to a friend, and the IFS is torched off

That's as far as I have gotten. I need to fix a couple leaks, looks like a broken front head bolt, and the rear main seal, so I'll inspect the clutch and flywheel when I dig in to fix those. I'm considering a marlin heavy duty clutch if needed, and a short shifter.

Here are the parts I have collected for the SAS and rear suspension; Sky hanger and shackle kit, TG frame plates, steering box mount, shock hoops, and rear spring hangers

And some more parts, magnaflow 11225, AFE filter for custom intake, LROR rear upper/lower shock mounts, TG diff guard and motor mount plates, and Marlin Crawler knuckle gusset kit

Hey Andy you still got the IFS stuff? Im interested in getting the arms and maybe any other spares from it. I was gonna go with a blazeland long travel for mines, and want the extra arms to build off of so my truck wont be down for too long.

Absolutely. Everything is still there and connected, you are welcome to come get it and I'll help you load it up.

The Artec Industries battery cage showed up today so I plopped it into place where I want it. I will replace the power steering cooler hose to go under the cage as the current one is in the way.

You can see the hose here

The hole in the core support for the air box, I might notch this to get the battery away from the power steering pump pulley and drop the cage down a little.

Here it is butted up to core support below said hole

It is sitting on the fender but not flat to the front, so I will need to beat the fender and/or shim the front of the cage.

No doubt. Will be a lot better than the stock j arm bracket. The artec box is well made and perfectly fit for the battery.

What are you saying? Don't encourage him or next it'll be a disco ball hanging from the mirror and velour curtains in the windows.

Don't worry, party lights for night time camping/wheeling are already being planned.

I'd love to get your impression on the fit and finish after you've installed them? I used their front crossmember brace instead of going with 4xInnovation, and I wasn't impressed at all.
