Hey guys, I am looking for help and tips here. My truck is having some electrical issue for sometime and I am unable to fix it.
Behaviour of truck is this:
When I turn key from ACC to IGN it goes crazy with instrument cluster lights turn on and off very quickly (glow, filter, t-belt, charge, both turbo indicators - those are supposed to be on when at IGN but engine off) and I can hear glow plug relay click rapidly as well. In most cases clock power goes out (clock resets) and voltmeter jump betwen min to half way. Its like turning ign on and off very fast or disconnecting battery. This "clicking" stage last from half sec to 3-4 sec after that its:
a) dies completly. That means no power to anyting, no interior light, no radio, no clock, turning key to START do nothing. Hazard lights worked but flash rapidly like some bulb is out.
b) it recovers and stay on. Then its possible to start normaly and drive without problems.
From the death stage when turn key back to acc all goes back to normal aka clock turn back on, radio back on (reseted if death stage was too long), interion light are back on. When try to switch again to IGN, it repeats.
No idea what it could cause this. I suspecetd ground somewhere since last time when it did not want to stay on (at ign) I resolved issue by wiggling ground wires at battery?? But nothing helped in permanent way after I tried couple things.
What I tryed so far:
1) checked battery connections, especialy ground. All looks good.
2) added new ground to chasis wire parallel to old one (old did not looked okay)
3) added new ground to chasis - to drive side
4) cleaned battery terminals and chasis grounds - it helped for while. no idea how and why.
5) checked voltage drops for grounds at several points in engine bay. All measurments were less then 0.02V so basicly no voltage drop. Battery voltage 12.66V (when it sits for several hours)
During one of death stage I did measure voltage on battery and it was about 12.4V and rising, like when load is disconnected. Thus I suspect nothing is shorting out a power but somehow something disconnect it all. I plan try to disconnect pre-heating timer (I have little suspcion on it). Maybe try to do some measurments in ignition switch, mabye ign contact is failing. But that do not explay why wiggling wires in engine bay helps, even only temporary.
Anyone encounter similar issue? Or have any idea what is going on? At this point I ll be glad for any tips.
Thanks
PS: I did have video of that crazy clicking, but guess that not help
