A340 Transmission Downshift Issues???

I just got my 1992 4runner with the 3.slow and A340 automatic transmission going again (head gasket job, front suspension replaced, and new tires). I've been driving it for a few days now, and I've noticed the transmission is having some downshifting issues. It up shifts great, with no slipping or anything weird. At times it will downshift like it should, and sometimes it just won't do it. I'm wondering if I adjusted the transmission cable wrong possibly, or if it might be something else I should look into. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Check kickdown cable adjustment. Sometimes a misfire can seem like a transmission issue.

Good luck. I changed transmission solenoids (3) due to problem where it wouldn't stay in gear once the transmission warmed up. That changed everything about how the transmission acted. It shifts and up down great now. Easy job, and I think around $80.

Transmission shop just called. They said the check engine light was for a bad tps. They said they're going to replace it and see if that fixes it. They did say it would affect shifting exactly how I described it. Looks like you hit the nail on the head.

I’ve been having a problem with my transmission too. When I start coming to a stop, my transmission all of a sudden kicks into neutral. I think it’s between 1st and 2nd gear when this happens. So when I hit the throttle to go off a red light or stop sign, the car just sits there and revs then basically neutral drops itself, has anyone had this issue or know anything about it? Please help because I don’t want to leave a driveshaft at the next red light I stop at.
