1984 4runner 7.3 idi

Would like ideas and comments on possibly stuffing a ford 7.3L idi diesel into 84. Thinking zf5 speed with a double np203/bw1350 and 1 ton fords front and rear on custom frame. 7.3 also already has a bank's turbo installed

I don't think I would want to add 500lbs to the front. That would have to throw off the balance of the 4runner.

Wish the motor only weight 500lbs... balance would not increase in front.... weight of extra transfer case would add another 120 in the center. 7.3 weighs 920lbs dry 1015 lbs wet, I'm more worried about how to add more weight to rear to keep traction

Sounds like it would be really loud! But seriously, you don’t need to worry about balance etc if you’re doing a custom frame. Just put things where you need them to balance it out. You’d basically be building a truggy and putting the 4Runner body on it. Have you measured the engine for clearances under the T4R hood? 7.3s are, as you know, BIG engines.

Do you have the 84 already? Is it in good shape? If you’re going to do custom everything, why not sell the solid axle truck to someone who will keep it closer to stock, and hack up a cheap ifs rig?

Personally, I think it’s a waste of time type project, but I don’t have any time to waste, so what do I know?

Personally I think throwing a bunch of bolt on's at a vehicle is a waste of time. I am a fabricator so naturally I like to take what every one thinks is crazy and turn it into a beautiful rig. Like taking a 68 mustang and turning it into a tractor pull truck. So anyways this sr5 only cost me 200, I'm gonna take the frame and every thing and turn it into a small buggy for my kids. The body I'm gonna stick over a big o engine. So Engine is way wider, height not worried about, inner fenders of body will have to cut out and reformed. And I'm thinking will probably move entire fire wall back 4inch plus refab and extend front fenders and hood 8 inch. Then last and final would be moving rear fender wells 22 inch (about) back and keeping all stock body lines

^^ what he said.

That engine will need a new frame, drivetrain, transmissions, drivelines.
It's a minitruck.
It makes zero sense.

If want to do something cool, put a tesla into it.

Yeah I'm in between the frames... . Ford frame would be easier, custom frame more convenient for doulbe tri. 4link.

Was thinking of using the ford cross members and facing new main beams.

To (member) putting a bb454 in to a Honda civic makes no sense either. But it makes for one bad a** drag racer.

vague industries just did this with a 2wd and a 7.3 powerstroke. They widened the body by about 16". Obviously not the same as a 4wd but probably the closest thing you will find.

That's a sweet rig...... I do t plan on widening mine. Will be moving fire wall, and eliminating front wheel wells. As well as moving rear wells back 20 some inch. And of course full width axles
