Possible to roll back mileage on a SR5 cluster?

Just picked up a sweet 1985 4runner with 125k on the odometer.
Just before I leave the PO says oh hold on I got something for you and brings out a SR5 gauge cluster and hands it to me.
I’d like to instal the cluster but it has almost 200k on it.
I did a quick search through google but didn’t notice any threads. I’ll try some other arrangement of words but I’m curious if anyone has done this or remembers seeing a how to thread.

Possible to roll back mileage on a SR5 cluster

There was a thread the other day about polishing the speedo cluster and someone linked a thread where he polished and rolled one back. Not sure what year it was but will try to find it

Here it is on a 88

Terrys87 88 4Runner Restoration/Build thread - Page 7 - YotaTech Forums

Or ask the seller how he did it to the one that’s in there...bah!

Nice truck. Why go with the SR5 cluster? If it's working I'd keep it stock.

Yes you can roll it back very easily. You just need to disassemble the speedo. you can attach a drill to the gear and just go to town. I did the same when i swapped to my SR5 cluster so my mileage would match the truck.

Just remember that when you switch to the SR5 cluster any gage that wasn't in your original cluster you will have to change out the sending unit to be a gage one not the idiot light one. I really prefer the SR5 cluster myself. Good luck with the project.

Yes.
There is a write up somewhere. Basically you press out the long pin holding all the counters together, that gives you enough wiggle room to manipulate them. Then press the pin back into its place.

I had the problem of a non-working speedo for 22 years.

Edit: found it! YouTube

dealer installed from what I was told. Probably more for pulling a bundle of logs rather than a stuck vehicle. Its mounted to the bumper and the front eye holes of the leafs.
