1st gen 4runner rear seat belt question

I have a 85 4runner with a couple lap belts in the back but they aren’t very functional. From what I read they were a common dealer installed option.
Been reading up on installing shoulder belts but the small issue of the rear interior card is a solid piece.
Has anyone gone about similar modifications?
I’m thinking I could carefully trim a hole where needs be and add some edging trim of some sort.

Pull the panel and see if the mounting locations are there. Should be!
Then all you need is new trim pieces.

Shoulder part simply bolts to the roll cage.

I haven't done it myself, but apparently 2nd gen truck belts will bolt right into place on the rear.

check the roll bar, you'll see the thread spot up high on each side, that's for the shoulder belt.
supposedly its a direct bolt up.

Yes, two mounting points on roll-bar. They're covered with plastic caps. Plug and play.
Outer lap mounts are just outboard of the seat bottoms. Lap belts mount to them.
Bolts are 7/16-20 thread or somewhere around that.

Someone on Yotatech or here said a Subaru shoulder-seatbelt fits. i used seatbelt and mechanism from Toyota pick up. Unfortunately, they're a little slack when unused but fit well when worn.

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.
