Remove Rear wiper arm 1994 T4R

Does anyone know how to remove the whole rear wiper arm? Mine is rusty and as Ive been going down the list tuning, painting and fixing I’ve reached the point of priority where I want to pull this sucker off and paint it up nice.

All I can see is the big nut but I can’t see what removing that will do anyway?

Is it just pressed on to the splines of the motor gear?

Thanks in advance

Max

Yep! just remove that nut and the arm comes off no problem. That's all I did to mine to clean it up, repaint the arm and replace the blade mount. Fairly simple.

Just to clarify we’re talking about the big flat nut that threads onto the large threaded shaft coming out of the back of the cab between the back of the arm?

Did you just lever it off with a screw driver?

I keep seeing a plate that removes to access a hidden nut in the schematic but it’s not the same on this truck.

Just ordered a replacement blade today. The one on there was bent and I bent it even more backing into a tree while camping this weekend. Thankfully that’s the only thing that made contact and got damaged. Especially since I had just finished treated all rust, scratches and touching up with duplicolor haha!

Ill get the arm styled up before the new blade comes. Thanks for the help.

Ok I’m hoping this can be made a sticky or something because I finally figured it out by accident.

So I loosened the large thin nut on the threaded shaft that comes out of the body of the truck and then went ahead and pried on it a bit.

Well thankfully I didn’t pry too hard and break that, but as I did the plastic cover that appeared to be one solid metal piece, but actually hides the nut that holds the wiper arm on popped up enough to reveal the actual metal arm beneath it!

I had pulled on it by hand before and it didn’t move but a light pry with a bar or flat screwdriver should loosen it up. Then just loosen the nut and give a little pry to the arm till it comes of the splined shaft.

I pulled the arm wire brushed and sanded it. Primed it and shot it with black.

I will post a shot when it’s back together with the new wiper blade hopefully tomorrow when it comes in the mail.

Looking forward to it as it’s been raining like crazy everyday.

Here’s the finished repair after priming and painting it looks pretty good. Hopefully this helps some other 2nd genners out there. I searched for a month before accidentally figuring it out. So while this isn’t that important it could make a good how to.

It’s quite easy once you find the cap that hides the bolt.

When reinstalling and before tightening down fully and replacing the cap just double check your wiper arm is sitting where you want it on the splined shaft so that the blade parks itself correctly.

You may need to start and stop the rear wiper a few times so you can watch it park itself on the rubber ramp. Too low or high bump it up or down a spline on the motor shaft. A little bending here and there on the arm may be required to fine tune it and get it to keep from catching the tips of the blade and to seat properly on the ramp.

Now ready for more heavy winter rains and dusty roads!
