89 Throttle Position Sensor

Hello Everyone-

I just bought an '89 and love it, but the check engine light will not allow me to pass smog, according to the diagnostic codes I checked, thanks to Chilton's, I supposedly have a problem with the throttle postion sensor.

The sensor is new, and I tested it (again accoding to Chilton's) with a continuity tester and feeler guages, it tests good. I don't know what to do next, the book gives me nothing. It also has an error code about the vehicle speed sensor, but the speedometer works fine. How can that be?

I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Barry

Is this the V-6? On my 94, which shouldn't matter, in the fuse box under the hood there is a 15amp fuse marked EFI. pull that for 30 seconds and see if that resets the code.

The VSS doesn't drive the speedo. A cable to the t-case does (unless you have an electronic speedo, but I don't think they had that in 89).

Disconnect the battery for a while to clear all stored codes and see what comes back.
