R150F transmission compatibility

I'm in the middle of a 3.4 swap on my 87 22re. I have a donor 99 4runner with 3.4 and 5speed. I thought i could use the transmission but am a little confused about what i have read.

I know the clutch slave is on driver side for the 5vz. I want to relocate it via a 3.0 R150 bell housing to passenger side. Wouldn't this work? I have read the input shaft is longer and will not work with the 3.0 bell housing?

Do I need to source a 3.0 R150??

Thanks!

Believe I read about someone who cut the shaft, may have to do some other machine work though, and might not have even been for this swap. Prob was not on this site. Search around and maybe you can find it though. IIRC he just used a grinder, that part stuck out to me.

Source a 3.0 r150. Everything will work out fine doing it that way. For that setup you use the 3.4 flywheel, 3.4 pilot bearing, 3.4 clutch disk (installed with the bulge facing flywheel no matter what is stamped on clutch disk) and 3.4 pressure plate. The throw out bearing will be for the 3.0.

The bell housing and input shaft are both longer on the newer version. So switching bell housings won't solve the issue. Use a 3.0 version MT and be done. (I've ran this setup for over a decade. Flawless). I would imagine you could rig up some bullshit with a 3/4" spacer or whatever is needed with older bell housing mated to newer trans but then the shift lever may not be centered and be too far back. Just starts being dumb. It's just sort of dumb doing it that way IMO when you can get a used unit for a few hundred bucks.

Here's the picture of the clutch disk install. I got burned really bad using an AISIN clutch that was marked wrong. 3.4's put the clutch disk backwards of most.

Great info, thanks! I did just source a 3.0 5 speed after some more research. Good deal that i can use the 3.4 clutch because it is brand new OEM

So a 3.0 5sp with work in a 3rd gen 3.4 rig?

I have a 98 sr5 5sp. It stopped going into 1st gear. I replaced the shifter bushings. No luck. I Drained the fluid to put in Redline mt90. The fluid that was in the tranny looked like a metallic oil and metal soup. I replaced fluid, drove a few hours and drained again. New fluid was already metallic in color.

A guy in town has an r150f out of a 3.0 runner for $200. No bellhousing or tcase.

Can I just drop my 3.4 r150f, Bolt on my bell housing and tcase to the 3.0 r150f and go?

Obviously change clutch and goodies while it's out. Last clutch I put in was 2009.

Thanks in advance.
