3VZ swap in '88 Gen1

I just purchased an '88 Gen1 that already has a 3.0 3VZ engine installed in it from a '95. The PO said it never ran well after the swap due to electrical problems so he messed with the engine harness and now it's looks like spaghetti under the hood. I did notice that the engine harness and ECU are still the original ('88). I am planning to replace the engine harness and ECU with ones from a '95 but wanted to know if I can reuse the original '88 main cabin harness. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 88 and 95 use different plugs for things. Depending on how it got spliced in I see where you may have issues. I would

Fuel injectors, knock sensor, and alternator all come to mind for having different plugs from 88 to 95. I think mid 92 was the switch over? I would check that you dont have 88 style injector in the 95 motor before you buy a 95 harness and have to change out plugs.

You were spot on with everything. I purchased a '95 harness and everything was different so I ended up purchasing another '88 harness in perfect condition. I then had to swap out the fuel injectors, the knock sensor and the alternator to '88 components. I still have to swap out the oil pressure sending unit for an '88 but I think that's it. I'm hoping to turn the key in another week or two.

There are two types of oil sending units. One for the actual gauge on an sr5 truck, or one for just a dummy light like on base model trucks. Having the correct one is essential, or it could fry something IIRC.
