1990 4Runner Jack Points

I have a 1990 4cyl (22RE) standard transmission 4Runner. I have invested in a proper floor jack and want to make certain I am jacking the vehicle at the best spots. The manual notes the jack points as Front - under the front suspension cross member and Back - under the rear axle housing. However, I can't really jack it up there and then get a jack stand in place at the same spot. Would someone with some knowledge/experience with regards to this advise me where I should be jacking up the front and/or the back of this vehicle with a floor jack so that I can then put the jack stands in place. I have read some say that at the back jack it up on the center of the rear axle housing (right on the differential I assume) - is this proper/safe? I much appreciate recommendations from the experts on this forum. Thank you so much.

The manual shows jack stand locations under the frame in front, just behind the front wheels. You'll need the tall, heavy-duty ("6-ton") kind to have enough length and adequate stability.

In the rear when you jack it up from the center of the diff (the normal jack point), you can then put jack stands under the axle tubes out near the wheels. Again, the manual shows this. You can also put jack stands under the frame in the rear ahead of the rear wheels if you need to have the axle drooping freely, ie. for suspension work.

Do not put jack stands in the front under the lower control arms near the wheels, for two reasons. (1) it stresses the lower ball joints in a way for which they are not designed, and (2), the bottom of the LCA slopes upward toward the center of the vehicle, risking the jack stand slipping out and dropping the vehicle suddenly.

Thank you for the information and diagram - much appreciated!
