Meh. More things to break and it only comes in auto transmission - again more things to break and negates the advantages the turbo brings.
Besides, with the manual transmission, you don't need a starter - LOL

A picture paints a thousand words.
Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

Wow, that's a crazy number for such a high mileage vehicle though it is in impressive condition!
It's interesting that Toyotas seem to be the only collector vehicles that don't have to be low mileage to bring decent money. Same with Supras and MR2s etc, which keep climbing in value.

People don't look at these further than the sum of its parts. Similar to the NAS Defender there is a whole experience to it. An original 4Runner that was part of the 80s Turbo craze. Digital gauges and funky seat logos tie this together into a look back to 80s car trends. Plus, a TON of first gens got turned into twisted hunks of scrap metal from being modified beyond recognition and wheeled into the ground. Glad they are finally appreciating consistently.

Yea but the majority of people don't want a manual in a 4wd SUV. I know that my 3rd gen has 320k miles on its automatic transmission so in a Toyota auto vs manual isn't a reliable argument.

Might just be me, but these old school 4x4's are meant to be manual. It's part of the experience.

I have an 86 turbo-it's an auto, too. To my knowledge, all turbos that vintage were autos. My guess is that the transmission choice might be due to emission requirements then-especially here in California.

Money pit

I'm no expert when it comes to Toyota but i have owned several, whoever bought it must be a collector or just someone that has more money than sense. There is a reason why they only made it for 2 years too many issues that was not addressed during the build in my opinion the block was not reinforced enough to handle the heat were the turbo sits, the turbo housing is prone to cracks and parts are hard to come by. It is a beautiful rig no question but having that engine it will be problematic down the road. Just my 2 pennies.

There was a point where the FJ40 was just another "mass produced used car". Show me a craigslist deal on a clean one now! Same idea here.

Here is a new one and it is really nice. I bet this is a $20k vehicle.
Ive put the last 30 minutes of the auction on my calendar. (Which will probably turn into an hour)
I have no affiliation with the vehicle or website. I like watching the auctions online just like I like to watch them on TV.

I think this one absolutely could be a record setter if the mileage was lower. I’ll be watching too.
