Finally-86 Turbo on the road!
I got this 86 Turbo early this year. The car was pretty rough, but the cool thing I discovered once I began working on it was that it was all original-paint, interior, drivetrain, etc. Being a California car, it was also rust-free(well, except around the base of the windshield posts where the trim bottoms out, but I guess that's a thing on these). It's taken a while, but I fianlly test drove it this week.3k on new engine, new turbo, exhaust manifold and housing, shocks, brakes, belts, hoses, and a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten about right now. I still have to replace the throttle position sensor and clean up the MAs- somebody also decided to put a bolt where the idle screw was, so that needs to be done. I still have to clean it up, but I love this thing!

A picture paints a thousand words.
Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

How has the interior faired out over the years?

I'm a little jelly over here.
I love simplicity that doesn't break, and if it does, is easy to repair.

It's a really fun ride! I haven't driven a non-turbo one in a while, but the turbo lag and whoosh of(moderate) power is pretty cool. I can pull hills easily.
It's just about right for a dude like me!

It is. In fact, the whole thing is original- and no rust!

Seats and door panels are original, but worn, the rear is good. I'll post some pics.

Yeah, my impression is that this thing is made to work. Nothing fussy, just functional. I think that's the appeal to me.

Do it. Save that truck! Maybe one day, it will be up in LR Defender territory.
(The original, not the toy that is out now)
I drove my '02 Limited and '21 Limited NS today....
The quality of interior parts is declining, and they are loading them with more stuff to break that will get too expensive to fix and will be relegated to a scrap yard easier than the old brutes.
