Vent conversion

Saw a few threads but nothing more than planning and theory’s.

Have two 87 SR5 4Rs, both with power windows and only one with vent windows.

Preparing to swap a few bits from one to another but wanted to ensure a clean swap, not rigged/cut/welded.

So, any definitive answer in doing a full swap of all guts (vent, channel, regulators, etc—all but door handles) and if I’ll regret it?

i would assume you should be able to compare the parts between the two as you disassemble them for the swap. change the parts that are different, retain the parts that are the same in both, unless it is easier to swap in the identical part rather than involve further disassembly. but that's just me.

Yes, that’s the plan...but hoped somebody had been down this road before.

Not quite ready for it yet, but I’ll post with findings after the turbo truck is painted and going back together.

For anybody else curious...

Need to add a reinforcement plate behind the mirror which is back about 6” on vent window door (vs full window). Then weld up the old mirror holes.

Depending on door panels, you may also need to swap the door harness which can be removed under the dash. Pain to do but not complex.

Vent window doors also have a brace between inner and outer shell, but it’s just 18 gauge sheet metal, easily removed.

I'm halfway through doing this on non-power windows and had some trouble with the rubber seal on the 1/4 vent getting jammed when I open/close the vent window. Any tips?

kinda along the lines of this thread....If anyone finds a source for reasonably priced window and door seals, please post up.

Another partial thread jack here. My vent window hardware somehow backed out and fell off without me noticing. Anyone have part numbers for the little bolt and washer that goes in the top of the vent window?
