Grandpa's 87 Turbo 4Runner

This weekend we were blessed big time by being able to pick up grandpa's old 87 4Runner from his old church friend for an amazing deal!

They got it from my Grandpa around 2015 and only got 2000 miles on it before something caused it not to run. So its sat around for almost 6 years not being driven and now we have it to fix and get on the road again.

I will post some more back story and pics later but here it is in all its glory

We will be posting updates here and on my YouTube channel.

Its right about 250k. I know head and turbo were rebuilt probably in the last 5-10k. Hopefully sitting hasn't hurt anything!

Sweet looking truck! I think I'd be taking a serious look at the aftermarket wiring under the hood though.

Belts and hoses don’t like to sit for a long time, so replace those. As for other things, I would drive it and observe for leaks, etc. I drove my 88 past 300k with original starter, alternator, timing chain, etc. if the alternator is original, replace the brushes, about $20.

That's the first thing I started on while my son was working on the passenger window!

Yeah that's a ton of money for all those hoses and belts so we will just run it and replace as necessary!

That's not a bad approach either.

Update:

Runner is getting really close to that first start. Almost everything is hooked up except we have found a good handful of wires missing plugs.. really sucks cause who breaks them or cuts them off when removing them? What the heck.. so we are trying to find random plugs with no luck. We need to find a good used cheap harness to cut plugs from..

Then we got another top so we took ours off and swapped. One of them will be cut into a summer top similar to one of my old runners.
