What the heck ..... ?

How did I end up with two 1989 special editions? I wasn't even looking

The dirty one in the back has been my wifes daily driver for 5 years. The shiny one I just acquired 4 days ago. Needs a head gasket likely, or maybe a timing cover. Coolant in the oil, but runs great; I drove out home. I've drained the coolant and am on the 3rd oil flush. 259 000kms, or 160 000 miles. I paid 1250$ for it.

The question is, what to do with it?

a) Fix the head gasket/timing cover and drive it!

b) Fix it, store it and restore it one day.

c) Restore it and drive it

d) Fix it and sell it

Also, any info on these Special Editions? I assume 1989 only? How many were made? These two were made '89/01, '89/02, 107 #'s apart. Too bad they weren't consecutive serial #'s. The dirty one is a 5 speed, the new one is an automatic. Otherwise I believe they are identical.

the SE could be canadian market? different steering wheel than we get in the states, too.

i’d just fix the rust and drive it. i own 2 ‘87 sr5s, and i drive them. one has been my DD for over 8 years.

considering how ragged out the center console armrest is that interior is in awesome shape!
The auto in these things suck big time. price the repairs and go from there.
seems like you got a good deal.
There is a toyota sales page on instagram where a dude is asking $7500 for a semi stripped shell of a first gen truck.
