95 4runner major speedometer issue plz help

So I just replaced the speedo cable with an OEM one from the dealership and while driving to eureka, we had to push the truck uphills pretty hard and it barely made it here, along the way, the speedometer started flickering as it was moving up and randomly just quit out on me, could the cable have broken again?? It only had one speed sensor, no code 42 anymore but no speedometer or odometer or trip

Also randomly I had a code 52 that while driving just disappeared, really strange, all weve had done since owning the truck is a throttle body cleaning, a new fuel filter, the transmission fluid was basically refilled because when we got the truck it was running on less than half a quart of tranny fluid, other than the cable and some suspension work, nothing else was done, who knows that might come back

EDIT: Code 42 returned which means I'm getting erratic shifting again

My mechanic is trying to telle the cable locked up due to heat from the exhaust? Yet the actual cable rotates no problem, plugged it back in and was able to free up the cable from being stuck, going to test now

I really could use some help folks, my mechanic said the cable locked up, yet spins no problem from transfer case side, I have greased the speedo head on the cluster and dropped machine oil into the cable and still absolutely nothing, what the hell happened, my mechanic said the header got to hot and burned the cable, yet it doesn't look burnt but looks like the cable has that snake skin type of feeling to it, so it did take some heat from the exhaust, nobody thinks the exhaust could have done that and Toyota parts told me these cables don't fail
