Combination Switch intermittent wipers to standard wipers

So here's what's going on...The combination switch in my 88 is shot. I have rebuilt it once and it lasted a while but now I fear it may be beyond repair. The 4runner has intermittent wipers and the p/n on the switch is 84310-35240. The truck has tilt wheel and does not have cruise control.

I have tried unsuccessfully to find a new one. I know there are used switches available on ebay but I feel like that is a crap shoot.

I pulled the original combination switch out and put in a new switch that only has "mist, off, low, and high" wiper functions. (p/n 84310-35180)(aftermarket but seems like good quality) I figured what the hell, I will try this and see if it works since I cannot find a replacement for my original switch. I have read where some people say the wires are too short for this switch to work with a tilt column but I did not have an issue. I was able to gain a little slack in the wiring harness to make up the difference.

The headlights, signals, hazards, all work. The wipers work BUT, If I turn it to "mist" it blows the fuse immediately. So I do not use that function at all. Low and High will work for a while but ultimately ends up blowing the fuse.

I do not drive my 4runner in the rain unless it is unexpected. But I would like to pick some brains here if there is something I can do to make this new switch work without blowing the fuse or if someone has a line on a replacement for my original switch.

I have searched and I must say I am more confused now than when I started searching. I realize this is backwards from how most guys do it. The normal is to go from standard wipers to intermittent. I honestly do not care. I drive this 4 runner only in warm weather and just want the wipers to work for morning fog or unexpected rain.

I've got a couple of those combo switches, but I don't think any are for intermittent wipers.

Forgive any ignorance, but what about the hundreds of replacement wiper controllers on ebay? From what I am seeing they have intermittent, slow, and fast functionality.

I was looking at one to replace the faded controls on my stock wiper controller, but have more pressing issues to resolve first.

Hey hey, hey hey hey. Don't be poo-poo'ing eBay. I done seen hundreds of intermittent wipers for us to partake in.

And honestly, I'm batting 1.000 on eBay for gen1 parts.
