Sorry for the delay. It looks like there might be a hiccup with the fuel delivery, possibly leading to a rich mixture and that strong fuel smell. I suggest taking a look at the fuel pressure at the rail and giving the fuel injectors a once-over for any problems.
Also, don't overlook the chance of a vacuum leak, as that can affect idle and cause stalling. Check vacuum lines for cracks or loose connections. And take a peek at the idle air control valve (IAC) and the throttle position sensor (TPS) to make sure they're doing their job right.
