Single Din OEM Toyota Radios

I am looking to put a single din Toyota radio in my newly purchased 88 4Runner. I am not looking to be year specific. Matter fact, I would prefer to have a Toyota radio from a newer vehicle. Cassette player is a must. CD changer optional if it’s not a double stack. I have been looking at the models below. Has anyone used one of these? Do they fit correctly? Is there any better options?

I'm curious on your approach. I have a very original 86 Turbo that I'm torn between 'classic' restoration and 'restomod' approaches.

The one place I'm not ready to go back to the '80s on is the radio/infotainment system. The slot is a double DIN space. Mine still has the original 'fancy' double DIN cassette deck installed.

If I try to stay "Toyota", I was thinking of chasing down a factory radio from a late model 4Runner. Last I saw they were a basic double DIN head unit until very recently. I thought about seeing if I could find one with built in navigation to spiff up the experience, but I also want Carplay. I read somewhere that Carplay didn't come factory until 2020, which really limits my options for built in navi AND Carplay.

For the record, if you are strictly looking at single DIN 'yota options, both of the ones you posted would look very clean in a gen1.

My approach is to keep it looking as stock as possible. Unfortunately, the previous owner cut out (literally) the old radio, cig lighter and overdrive button. Besides that, the interior is flawless. I figure a later year Toyota cassette player to the average eye looks stock. And they make a new Bluetooth cassette that can connect directly to a smart phone.

I prefer single din because I use the tray under the radio. There was some options in the 90’s for double dins with CD players that would look good too. But obviously that doesn’t come with CarPlay or Navi. I personally don’t like anything post 2000 in one of these vehicles. But each is own.

I ended up buying the unit below. Offered $15 plus shipping and seller accepted. Arrived today, looks like it is brand new, and works.

That'll look perfect in a gen1.

As for replacing lost panels, they are out there. Find them in 'some' color and just color match with plastic paint.
