Valve Cover gasket and paint

I've got some oil leaking out between the valve cover and the head, and I'd like to replace the gasket. Apart from draining the oil and removing a few hoses, is there anything else to it?

I've also seen a few pictures with it painted, what's the right way to do that?

You don't need to remove the motor oil. You might want to change the upper intake manifold gasket too since that needs to come off to access the valve cover bolts. I'm having the throttle body bored over stock today so I decided to remove the upper intake and change my gaskets today at the same time. Just take a pic of all the hoses and air lines before you remove them.

Mine's a 4cyl, so the air intake doesn't sit over the valve cover, though I'm going to be replacing that gasket anyway as I'm in the process of removing my air intake to access a bad fuel injector.
