EFI check connector shorted?
Quote:
Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Note any unusual sounds. Timing chain replacement is straightforward and provided the instructions in the service manual were followed, the engine should operate normally. Shut off the engine and check the fluid levels and inspect for leaks. Start the engine once more and set the ignition timing per the underhood emission decal. EFI-equipped trucks are set to 5-degrees BTDC with the EFI check connector shorted. Carburated trucks should be set to 0-degrees BTDC with the vacuum lines disconnected from the vacuum advance unit.

Where is this "EFI check connector" and how do you "short" it?
Does short mean disconnected?

Well I can answer half of your question. Short means a jumper wire between two electrical contacts.

When you find this EFI connector there will be contacts or pins in it . When they say short they mean touch a piece of wire to two contacts at the same time.

Yeah I know but you remove the "short" after the timing is set. Does that sound better? Maybe someone else should do this for you. Someone who knows what they're doing.

Forget everything I said. A short is a Latino term for vehicle. As in "How do you like my short man".

Lol I know what u mean its just ive never done something like that before on a vehicle. Sounds kinda weird. It reminds me of getting a wire and connecting positive and negative on the battery lol.

It keeps the timing from being advanced electronically so you can set the timing properly. Is this a riot too?

If you're reading a manual that has info on a timing chain in it, I hope you have a 22RE (4 cylinder) engine because that's the one with a chain.
And, if your truck is anything like my 95, the connector is under the hood next to the fuse box near the battery. I think its labeled 'diagnostic port' or something similar. There is also a pin diagram on the hood if no one pulled yours off that also mentions this connector and gives you a diagram of the 2 pins to be shorted. If memory serves me its pin 5 and 7 and as mentioned you stick a piece of wire or a paper clip in the pins to connect them to disable the electronic advance. This is also how you read stored codes out of the ecm. If the check engine light flashes like 5 times them pauses, and then another 2 times then pauses that would be a code 52. If its a continuous flash there aren't any codes stored and things are right for the timing.
PS, it helps to post what year truck and engine you have when asking questions like this...

OVVRDRIVE is correct (again) This fuse box is very small, about 1"x2" right behind the battery. You will need a small wire stripped on both ends and you will "jump or short" the two pin slots with the stripped wire. Once that is done, you can set the timing on the car. After the timing is set, remove the wire and you are done. I usually do the jump with the engine off, then start it for the timing, but I don't think it matters.
Just make sure the engine is warmed up when you set the timing.
Good Luck

Hmm, Is it near the diagnostic stuff that you plug in to?
I believe my diagnostic plugs are on the driver side pluged into rubber plugs on the engine compartment wall to hold them there.
I found 3 connection plugs near the battery but none of them are labled.
On my hood there are 2 lablels.
One something about the vacuum lines.
THe other is information like idle speed, and type of motor etc.
It says 5 degrees BTDC with Terminal T shorted.
Ill be back in 15 mins with pictures.
Any input?
