Suspension Wear and the infamous squat

My 4Runner doesn't have the squat, but I'm not sure if it's due to good springs in the back, or lowering the torsion bars in the front. What's the best way to tell the difference?

I'm a little confused by your question, are you asking whats not broken?

I don't think anyone has ever asked me to diagnose a lack of a problem before.

It's a common issue for the 4Runner's rear springs to wear out causing them to sit lower in the back than the front.

The right way to fix the problem is to replace the rear springs, the cheap way is to adjust the front torsion bars to lower the front to match the back.

I'm looking for a way to find out if my rear springs are bad and the front is lowered, or that my rear springs are good and my front is set to the standard height.

Generally we all accept that the rear springs will squat. Don't lower the front to 'hide' the problem. Extended shackles are cheap (free if you make them) and will raise the truck back up to stock. When you do replace the springs, put your old shackles back in, and sell your extended ones to someones that needs them.

There has to be a spec somewhere for the ride height. Fender lip to the ground. I would actually be interested in what it is to find out how much mine is lifted. I will have a look in the manual later.

For the fronts, most trucks and 4Runners are set at the factory to about 13.5" - 14" from the top of the rim to the fender lip.
This should tell you whether the front has been lowered or not, good luck.
