Additional work

To get this truck in running order I had to:

1. Replace all belts.
2. Replace the oil cooler gaskets to fix a terrible oil leak.
3. Fixed the speed sensor cable. The cable and sensor assembly will eventually be replaced.
4. Waiting for part to arrive to replace an outter CV joint boot. (Any advice on inspecting/cleaning before installing the new boot is appreciated.)
... After further inspection, looks like I'll need to replace all CV boots. Arrrggg...

As a side note:
>>The running boards have been removed.
>>As it has become rusted and beyond repair all spare tire assembly from the under carriage has been removed.

On the agenda, is to fix the sagging rear end. The coil springs arrived on Friday but I will wait until I decide on a set of shock absorbers before starting this project.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a 1994 4Runner as well in the same color! Looks like you have a lot of your hands to work with. I still have to figure out why I am leaking power steering fluid. Reading a couple different posts on here it seems to be a common issue.

Haha, that was the first thing I noticed was the squat. I need to fix that on my own T4R. When I get the time, I've got no money. When I've got money, I've got no time.

I really wanna take my running boards off but my girlfriend is trying to veto that idea because she's so short. lmao

Rob Drives (Fuel Leak)

Did you replace the pump yourself? If so, please provide details. I have since noticed a stronger than normal gas fumes odor while crawling around under my truck. TIA

P.S. I have found this site to be quite helpful

It'll cost you a min of $10 for 24 hr access to get a hold of the manuals and any other documents/Service Campaigns you might need.

fuel tank

YES I DID REPLACE IT MYSELF... CHILTON AND HAYNES SAYS YOU CAN ACCESS FUEL PUMP FROM UNDER RIGHT REAR PASS SEAT /CARPET /FLOOR PANEL ACCESS.....BUT IT WAS NOT AN OPTION IT WAS VERY TIGHT IN THERE. GIVE IT A SHOT I WOUND UP TAKING THE SHAFT DOWN AND REMOVING ENTIRE FUEL TANK TO INSPECT. THE PUMP WAS (MISTING) CRACKED AT THE BEND ON THE SUPPLY TO ENGINE SIDE. I JUST REPLACED HOLE PUMP FROM A SALVAGE YARD . IF YOU DO TAKE DOWN SHAFT BE SURE TO MARK IT'S POSITIONS WITH PAINT (YOU DONT WANT TO UNBALANCE DRIVELINE. ROB

Rusty Bumper

Both right and left side bumpers are rusted through. There is hope though, on my wish list is to replace the entire bumper with a badlandbumpers.com setup.

Re: Additional work

Ok Folks! I replaced the springs and shocks yesterday. I don't see any difference in the squat. I'm a little disappointed in the MOOG Springs. When I compared them with the originals they were much shorter but a much thicker spring. I was thinking that the original springs were being compress beyond the height of the MOOG spring, so I continued with the replacement job. Let me know what you think. I also removed the rusted out rear bumpers. Also, replace the rims with a set of 97 Tacoma rims.

moog springs

Truck is starting to look good. I was going to replace the springs in my 95. When started to do the work I noticed the new springs were way shorter than the stock. I returned to the store and said to hang with it for now.

EVENING OUT THE FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION

If you compare the photos it looks like you've brought the back end up a bit but not level with the front end.

It may be that a previous owner cranked up the torsino bars.

You could probably even it out by uncranking the torsion bars. When I bought my 4runner 4cyl the front was sitting way up and I lowered it by uncranking the torsion bars.

As a side note I noticed that the ride quality and cornering improved after I lowered the front a bit.

I'm going to try this out. If it makes my 4Runner look un-squatty, and makes the ride better, what could go wrong? Thanks for the tip!
