Absolutely badass rig. What's the advantage of leaf springs?

Hi everyone 2nd Gen 4runners are a lot of fun. This is my '95 4Runner 3VZE 2WD from my trip to Kings Canyon, California. Had her for 5 years now and she has been good to me.

The Next Beast in the Garage
After a long layoff, I'm finally back in the game with another 2nd Gen rock crawler. It's a '93 with a 4" Trail Gear SAS, and corresponding leaf suspension in back. Unfortunately it is using the 3.slow V6, but dual cases give it some extra gearing to help out. The exhaust manifolds have thankfully been capped, so there's no dreaded crossover pipe to cook the head gaskets into oblivion. No , I did not do the build--I was looking for a clean stock 2nd Gen to start with, and found this instead, with all of the running gear (except engine) that I would've added, already installed and proven. I'll be adding action shots as I get them.

That's a good looking rig! It's gonna be really sweet with the "new" engine.

I got bad news yesterday. My 4runner has blown a head gasket. It recently overheated and started spewing coolant through the reservoir. I brought it to my mechanic and he replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system but to no avail. It still runs but it heats up really quick now.
The frame and body are solid, with very little rust given it’s age
What do you think? I love this vehicle, but how much is too much?

Unfortunately for the 3.0 V6, a blown head gasket is quite common. The problem is the factory crossover pipe being right behind the heads, cooking them until they blow. The other details you mentioned aren't difficult fixes. Put some headers on it to eliminate future head gasket issues, and check for A/C refit kit. They're great trucks, and very capable offroad. The frame and body are the important things, and you're good there. You can do a lot of mods for way less than a new truck!

All my 4runners that i built have been 3.0s. Never had issues with them. Ran upside down, on its side and all that jazz. People that have issues with them don't do maintance or check fluid's, in my opinion.
