Sleeping in the back of 1991 4runner

Hi everyone,

I just paid a deposit for a 1991 4runner. My girlfriend and I want to use it for backpacking. I was just wondering if it is convenient to sleep in the back of a 1991 4runner? I am about 1m85 and my girlfriend is about 1m70.

Thanks. fuego

i think you will be fine. i sleep in mine all the time. One of my mates is about 190cm tall and he fit ok. All i do is take the head rests out and fold the seats up and the floor is perfectly flat all you need is a mattres.

Awesome.

But you'll be able to sleep in the back just fine. I'm 1.85 and I can sleep pretty easily back there. Usually most people don't sleep straight anyway...

At least it's better than a tent, and sometimes in the snow storms that gaze on the highlands it's a pretty neat feature to be able to sleep in the back!

Good luck mate.

I sleep in the back of mine all the time! Mobile 4x4 Campsite! Heated, lighted, and has a radio too! lol

I'm 6'2" and I sleep comfortable. I'm just a tad too tall to stretch all the way out, but if i angle myself slightly, its no big deal... even with a girlie laying next to you.

I have two futon matresses and they fit perfectly back there. Makes for a REALLY comfy bed!

Enjoy!

Cool! We are going to hit the road next week, going on a 15.000 km trip through Australia. We did some preperations today, we bought 2 big storage boxes which we can put on the bed while driving and under the car while sleeping. I am realy looking forward to it

Newcastle? We'll be there next week or so

We did a little test run in the Blue Mountains the last 3 days. We found out that it is quite cold over there, even in the back of a 4Runner.

We also found out that the space between the wheels is not really enough for the two of us. There was only a width of 65 cm to sleep on, not really comfy. So we went to the hardware store today to get some materials and we built a bed in the rear of the 4Runner. It is 25 cm high (so we're above the wheels) and 130 in width. We removed a part of one of the back seats so that my side has a length of 185 cm. My girlfriend's side has a length of 165 cm. That is enough for her and we wanted to keep one of the back seats. The part above the back seats can easily be removed, so we can take another passenger when necesairy. And we have lots of storage space under the bed. We used some of the knowledge from this website. All together a real nice addon to the 4Runner
